SCUOLA GRANDE DI SAN ROCCO (San Rocco’s main School)

This magnificent palace, situated in the Sestiere of San Polo, was built during the XVI century as per will of the members of the San Rocco confraternity

they decided to built a stable  site after receiving the relic of the Saint.

Once the works ended, a competitions were advertised amongst artists of that period, amongst them Veronese, Salvati, Tintoretto, all decoration works were then commissioned to Tintoretto.

Still today, between ground and first floor is possible to admire countless operas inspired to the Old and new testament. Amongst them, “ The Three wise man adoration” ,” the assumption of Mother Mary” , “ the crucifixion” , “ the escape to Egypt” asll works that consecrated Tintoretto amongst the greats Venetian Painters.
