Philip Guston and The Poets

From  May 10th to  September 3rd will be open by the Gallerie dell' Accademia the exhibition "Philip Guston  and the Poets", a retrospective that investigates the relationship between artist and his sources of inspiration, taking into consideration five fundamental poets of the twentieth century who took part in his creative process: D. H Lawrence (Great Britain, 1885 – 1930), W.B. Yeats (Ireland, 1865 – 1939), Wallace Stevens (United States , 1879 – 1955), Eugenio Montale (Italy, 1896 – 1981) and T. S Eliot (Great Britain, American of birth, 1888 – 1965).

Through 50 of his most important paintings and 25 fundamental drawings dated from 1930 until 1980, the year of death of the artist, it will be possible to retrace the long artistic life of Philip Guston, deeply influenced by Italy and, in particular, Venice. As a young man, in the realization of murals, he looked at Renaissance frescoes as inspiration and in fact this love for Italian painting remained as the motto of his entire career.

Curated by Kosme de Barañano and is organized by the Gallerie dell'accademia of Venice in collaboration with the summer of Philip Guston.
